Are Supermarket Whiskys Any Good?

OK so!! 🥃 Are supermarket whiskys any good or should they be avoided?

Well, I never buy Famous Grouse which doesn’t say whisky on the bottle so could be anything or Bells which is gunk

In the last fortnight I have tasted Sainsbury, Tesco and Morrison own, the latter two being aged 3 years which is good and the former bearing the same colour label as Grants Triple Wood which is a good all round blended whisky

Sainsbury is sweet and rich, excellent with green ginger wine for a Mac 🥃 half and half whisky/ginger or to taste

Tesco is a good sipping blend, more savoury and intense

Both fine to fly with

But let’s try the nuances of Morrison

So on the bottle: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃 Morrison bottled in Scotland 40% aged 3 years “A blend of malt and grain whisky with a fruity, honeyed flavour” one of the big distilleries will make this brand label blend

Much lighter in colour, a light honey gold very pleasing to the eye with chamomile on the nose

Take a sip and swirl plentifully around your tongue – this is a bright dynamic potent clinging clawing sharp claymore of a decisive victory, full of heather honey, the sting of a young eager bee 🐝 and notes of summer grass and Highland hospitality

A perfect sip for a summer evening without being precisely expressive this is a good quaff at a reasonable price

Personally, whoever concocts these blends, they offer finer flavours, truer texture and better quality than the known brands so yes, they are good and a better choice

This one is so reflective I can easily drink it without ginger wine which dulls the edges whilst warming

This evening I have a medley pizza of use-up ingredients which will suit my Sunday mood fine! 🍕😋

Get in!!

The Sainsbury and Tesco blends are ideal for cocktails but the Morrison is a moreish quaffer alone 🐺🧢
